چکیده

An exploratory computational investigation using RANS & URANS was carried out to understand the aerodynamics around an isolated single rotating wheel with decreasing ground proximity. The wheel was initially modelled in free air conditions, then with decreasing ground proximity and increased yaw angle with rotational speeds. Three speeds of rotation were applied to the wheel so that the effect of different angular velocities can be investigated. In addition to rotation, three different yaw angles were applied to the rotating wheel in order to understand how these two variables combined affect the aerodynamic flow field around the wheel. Keywords—Aerodynamics, CFD, Ground Proximity, Landing Gear, Wheel, Rotation, Yaw.

Comprehensive Investigating on the Aerodynamic Influences of the Wheel Contact Patch

Computational fluid dynamics is implemented to investigate the influence of the wheel contact patch on the global car aerodynamics. Two main aspects of the problem are the contact step and patch shape. Three important parameters: step height, cut angle, and tire tread shape are taken into consideration. For validations of the numerical results, the experimental data are also considered. The obt...

Aerodynamic analysis of an isolated vehicle wheel

Increasing fuel prices force the manufacturers to look into all aspects of car aerodynamics including wheels, tyres and rims in order to minimize their drag. By diminishing the aerodynamic drag of vehicle the fuel consumption will decrease, while driving safety and comfort will improve. In order to properly illustrate the impact of a rotating wheel aerodynamics on the car body, precise analysis...

Torsional Aeroelasticity of a Flexible VAWT Blade using a Combined Aerodynamic Method by Considering Post-stall and Local Reynolds Regime

The present research investigates the torsional aeroelasticity of the blade of an H-type vertical axis wind turbine subject to stall and post-stall conditions in various Reynolds regimes, which is experienced by the blade in a full revolution. In order to simulate the aerodynamics, a new model based on a combination of the Double Multi Streamtubes (DMST) model and the nonlinear multi-criteria C...

A new direct yaw moment control with lateral forces effect consideration

Direct Yaw moment Control systems (DYC) can maintain the vehicle in the driver’s desired path by distributing the asymmetric longitudinal forces and the generation of the Control Yaw Moment (CYM). In order to achieve the superior control performance, intelligent usage of lateral forces is also required. The lateral wheel forces have an indirect effect on the CYM and based upon their directio...

Hydraulic anti-lock, anti-skid braking system using fuzzy controller

To maintain the stability trajectory of vehicles under critical driving conditions, anti lock-anti skid controllers, consisting of four anti-lock sub-controllers for each wheel and two anti-skid sub-controllers for left and right pair wheels have been separately designed. Wheel and body systems have been simulated with seven degrees of freedom to evaluate the proper functioning of controllers. ...
